“The benefits of (IP) video technology include cash savings, clear messaging across the entire enterprise, and the organizational agility that comes from speedy and accurate dissemination of information necessary to individual and corporate success. It is not a novelty at Cisco; it is a necessity—an integral part of our strategic planning and communications.”

Meeting Announcement

Jun 22, 2007: Exploring the Wikinomics-Learning Intersection

Since our last meeting, Dave Davison, Founder of ConversationBase LLC and his colleagues have worked hard to develop tools and technologies to enable structured conversation around topics like Wikinomics, drawing on and linking a variety of information and knowledge assets and sources, including the eLearning Forum archive. Dave will give us an update of the status of his tool development and give a brief demonstration of how the eLearning Forum and other organizations will be able to use these tools.

The second part of the meeting will provide a rich set of perspectives on collaboration from two active practitioners and experts in the field. David Coleman, Managing Director and Founder of Collaborative Strategies, will give us an update on “Next Generation Collaboration Tools and Technologies in the Context of the Web 2.0 era.” David has monitored, analyzed and written about collaboration tools and technologies for the last 18 years and keeps a finger on the pulse of emerging startups and trends in the collaboration field. He also understands adoption issues in both small and large companies. David is a great and avid blogger who regularly shares his insights through the Collaboration blog (check out www.collaborate.com). David is currently working on a book with Stewart Levine called “Collaboration 2.0” and plans to use conversation base to make it one of the first interactive books available.

Another interesting perspective on collaboration will come from Jeff Weinberger, Disruptive Marketing Executive and Thought Leader and author of the Disruptive Marketing blog. Jeff, formerly with Saba, is now in product marketing at WebEx, a Cisco company, where he helped launch WebEx’s online community. While at Saba, Jeff helped Saba analyze and strategize how to meet the shifts to “Learning 2.0,” involving increasing use of collaborative tools and technologies to improve both formal and informal learning. He is now focusing on two fundamental shifts that often go unnoticed in our efforts to create and apply the tools of collaboration and collective intelligence. First: How does the shift to “collaboration” change what we do every day? Working in a collaborative environment and focusing on collective intelligence not only changes the way we interact, but also changes how we act. Second, it is not enough to just collaborate: It is still our responsibility to engage our audience, to go out with a message and draw them in. Then, and only then, can we actually collaborate. With customers, with learners, how do we use both real-time and asynchronous collaboration to start the conversation and engage our audience?
