"Money has become intangible; it's simply bits and bytes... it's not finished goods. Money has become the raw material. The real wealth of any organization lies between the ears of its people. We've arrived in an economy where it is thinking, knowledge, intellectual capital that tip the balance between success and failure."

Meeting Announcement

April 20, 2007: Where Wikinomics Meets Learning

Our last eLearning Forum meeting featured Don Tapscott – one of the world's leading business strategists – who shared insights from his new best selling book with co-author Anthony Williams, Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything.   Don’s presentation at the eLF was widely attended by about 700 people around the world. Subsequently, we have had about 300 visits to our community site at http://elf.collabhost.com and over a thousand visits and downloads of his presentation from our website where it is available to all at http://elearningforum.vportal.net  For more information about Don’s background and the book, visit: www.newparadigm.com or www.wikinomics.com

As mentioned at the session and in our subsequent emails to eLF members, our April 20th eLearning Forum meeting will be a continuance of the “conversation” around Wikinomics and implications for learning.  We are very pleased to invite you to this next event where we will explore Where Wikinomics Meets Learning through the lens of a prominent Silicon Valley technology executive and venture capitalist, Dave Davison, who will unveil his newly developed framework for understanding the key messages and themes of Wikinomics.  A central concept is the use of a visual interpretation( diagram) as a "map" to the Wikinomics content, which facilitates an orchestratable, mass conversation with all who attend, and enables the ongoing discussion with the authors and the eLF.  We intend to unveil and launch an ongoing collaborative forum discussion over the next year around the issues and opportunities for creating value through Wikinomics based learning.

We will also have a panel of learning executives from both Sun and Salesforce.com (Glenn Oclassen) share their experience and ideas for the application of collaborative technologies to enhance learning.  In addition, Steve Hill, head of research services from Learning Light, visiting us from the UK will bring an international perspective, as part of the panel. Lance Dublin will facilitate questions to the panelists and audience around this framework.  Learning Light is a non-profit center of excellence for the use of learning technologies within the workplace organization based in Sheffield– a growth area for eLearning and game development businesses in the United Kingdom, see www.learninglight.com.

Note re Books:  For those who registered to attend in person for the Tapscott event on February 27th but did not receive your book, we will have them available at this session. Please attend and receive your book. A limited number of books will be available (at the discounted price) for those who attend the April 20th session in person and would like to purchase one.

Initial Reader Comments on Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything:
"No company today, no matter how large or how global, can innovate fast enough or big enough by itself.  Collaboration-externally with consumers and customers, suppliers and business partners, and internally across business and organizational boundaries-is critical.  Wikinomics reveals the next historic step – the art and science of mass collaboration where companies open up to the world. It is an important book." – A.G. Lafley, CEO, Procter & Gamble.

“Wiknomics captures and explains the essential nature of the next generation of the Internet -- how collaboration and communication technologies are democratizing the creation of value. An insightful and engaging book.” – John Chambers, President and CEO Cisco Systems

"Peter Drucker said the new world of organizations and information awaits its Copernicus. While it would be a stretch to say that our new Copernicus has arrived in the bodies of Don Tapscott and Anthony Williams, I am very willing to proclaim that Wikinomics is undoubtedly best picture so far of the new world of enterprise, collaboration, innovation, and value creation. This is a breathtaking piece of work." – Tom Peters
