March 7, 2003 in San Francisco -- recorded by Mentorware

Double-header with friends from Canada and Dr. Michael Allen

The Canadian Consulate Trade Office is sponsoring our discussion of Global eLearning Supply Chain Management. The eLearning Industry is similar to automobile manufacturing. Ford, Daimler, Honda, BMW, Toyota, and their kin don't make cars from raw materials; they assemble them from components made by other companies. A car may contain a Blaupunkt radio, Michelin tires, Bosch sparkplugs, and KONI shocks.

eLearning companies don't make end-to-end solutions from scratch either. Often a "general contractor" farms out development, testing, measurement, coding, and other pieces of the whole. These days, both car parts and eLearning parts may come from different countries. We'll explore how this "supply chain" works and how to take advantage of it.

Michael Allen is the primary architect of Authorware (now folded into Macromedia), a chief designer of PLATO, CEO of Allen Interactions, and author of the new book Michael Allen’s Guide to e-Learning: Building Interactive, Fun and Effective Learning Programs for Any Company.

More importantly, Michael is a guru with the gift of gab, a Ph. D. who actually communicates with words and images anyone can understand. The first chapter of his new book, titled "Plain Talk," begins “Success is getting people to do the right thing at the right time!” Bravo! At our March meeting, he’s going to talk with us about how to do just that.
