eLearning at Stanford University

We met at the Stanford Center for Innovations in Learning, centered at the new Wallenberg Hall on the Stanford Quad. We heard how eLearning is now being deployed in the classrooms at Stanford but also what next generation eLearning technologies and applications are being developed in SCIL's R&D projects.

Imagine featuring a guest speaker from another country-who can visit the classroom from his own office. Robert Smith details how Flexible furniture, wall displays, collaboration stations, iSpace software, Huddleboards and CopyCams come together to create a new experience for Stanford learners.

Network (WGLN).

John Nash gives an overview of the WGLN's targeted grants program committed to tackling the challenges facing universities related to teaching with technology. Today the WGLN funds collaborative, international research and development on technology-supported pedagogy in medicine, liberal arts, engineering and computer science.

Andy DiPaolo describes the Stanford Center for Professional Development (SCPD), created in 1994 at Stanford to support the education and training needs of professionals in the areas of engineering, computer science, information technology, management, and the sciences. Today, this large-scale educational enterprise delivers credit courses, certificate programs, graduate degree programs, professional education courses, and contract training via the internet/web (Stanford Online) broadcast television (Stanford Instructional Television Network), two-way video, multimedia, and customized courseware.
