State of eLearning

Many of us recently attended TechLearn in Orlando and/or eLearning Guild in San Diego. We kicked off our November meeting at 8:45 am with trip reports from each event and a discussion of what’s new in eLearning.

This session was recorded. We will email the membership when the narrated, streaming PowerPoint presentations are posted.

Speed + Values = Winning Formula for eLearning

Join in a provocative conversation with two astounding business thought leaders, Charles Fred and David Bastone. (Presentation)

Charles L. Fred, President and CEO of The Breakaway Group

“If you want to understand what it means to out-think, out-learn, and out-perform the competition, read Charles Fred’s book – fast.” - Alan M. Webber, Founding Editor, Fast Company

Charles Fred is one of the true thought leaders in adult education and accelerated learning. He is one of our own – an eLearning guru. Before becoming CEO of an LCMS provider, he served as President and CEO of Omega Performance and President of Kaplan @Work, a division Kaplan Education Centers. His recent book, Breakaway - Deliver Value To Your Customers – Fast, proposes a new set of business rules that help leaders change the way in which they prepare their work force to deliver value faster.

David Batstone, co-founder of Business 2.0 and Executive Editor of Sojourners Magazine

"David Batstone’s insights on corporate America are so timely and on target . . . How can anyone doubt that we need to pay attention to the spirit that shapes a company’s practices?" – Jeffrey Seglin, Business Ethics Columnist, New York Times

Author of six books, David’s latest is Saving the Corporate Soul - and (Who Knows?) Maybe your Own. What timing! In the wake of the Enron debacle, the public and private furor over corporate irresponsibility and malevolence is at an all-time high. As new information continues to unfold in the wake of the meltdown, the media’s ongoing coverage is fueling the public cry for justice and, especially, for answers.

Charles Fred

Speed and Values vie for the top spot on every CEO’s list of priorities. Charles asks, “How can we fulfill the promise we make our customers faster than our competitors can?” David asks, “What is it about the modern corporation that makes joining it feel like we’re making a Mephisto bargain for our soul?” Both take a pragmatic, can-do approach. Together, they will investigate how the intersection of speed and values can unlock the potential of eLearning and human capital management.
